Here is your chance to secure a boat designed for the Port Phillip Bay, wooden fishing boat industry. Sprightly was designed and built by Charlie Strong in Port Melbourne, she is constructed of marine plywood, she is the last of her kind.
Now in the custody of Doug Beazley, fisherman and couta boat builder and restorer, this classic gunter rigged 20 footer is for sale. She is fast, flat bottomed and designed to get out to her fishing grounds with speed, her design is classic Charlie Strong, originally this design was used for sea netting garfish and other fish species in the shallow upper reaches of the bay. At 6 foot 6 inch beam and stabilised with water ballast tanks, this boat's performance will surprise you. Charlie is retired from fishing and no longer sails. The boat has been stored under cover and is only 10 years old. The sails and transom hung rudder were lost in the Black Saturday Bushfires and will need replacement.
Doug has too many boats in his fleet and is looking for a suitable custodian to look after Sprightly.
She handles and performs like a lighter more responsive couta boata and will reward her next owner.
