Visit the Wooden Boat Festival in Hobart 2011. 

The Australian Wooden Boat Festival, Hobart, Tasmania is on again on the 11-14 February 2011. It's a spectacular celebration of classic wooden boats, maritime heritage and craftsmanship. Dockside music, theatre, fabulous food, boats afloat and ashore, an array of stalls and the authentic Maritime Marketplace and Shipwright’s Village bring the waterside to life. Come to the port of Hobart in Tasmania and experience the best classic wooden boat festival in the world.

Classic Wooden Boat will be attending, we will be sailing down to Hobart on Amazing Grace, testing her new sails, rigging and furling systems. We will depart in late January 2011 in convoy with other visiting boats. Place this date in your diary and think about sailing or motoring across to the Festival.

The Tasmanian Government, the festival’s principle sponsor, has acknowledged the enormous significance of the Australian Wooden Boat Festival and its’ role in promoting tourism intrastate, interstate and throughout the world as well as being proactive in preserving and promoting our maritime heritage. In recognition of this theTasmanian Government has announced new funding arrangements which will enable the festival organisers to run the event free of entry charge to its patrons.

It’s bigger!

Not only will the 2011 festival be free of entry charge it will also be twice the size of previous festivals embracing the whole of the Sullivans Cove. Organisers anticipate that more than 100,000 people will attend the 2011 festival compared with 40,000 in 2009.

It’s international

Among the many major attractions will be displays of unique traditional boats from overseas. Currently discussions are underway with connections in Japan, Indonesia, New Zealand and New Caledonia. Special villages will be set up to display traditional boat building techniques, food and live performances.
